The Franklin County Legal Journal is the official legal publication of the county, designated by the Court of Common Pleas of the 39th Judicial District of Pennsylvania. The Franklin County Bar Association`s weekly publication includes court notices from the 39th Judicial District and certain public notices required by local and/or state laws, as well as news for the county legal community. One of PNA`s most popular services for our members is the free legal helpline. PNA members can contact the hotline for any legal questions. The association hopes that you will find in this publication a valuable tool for dealing with day-to-day legal issues and a useful resource for developing long-term policies and programs. The law journal is published every Friday. The registration deadline is Monday noon of the publication week. In 1994, the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers` Association published a compilation of laws affecting newspapers, the Newspaper Handbook. Since then, the laws concerning newspapers have changed, and the demand for an updated version of the manual led to a 1998 version and this updated and significantly expanded version of 2000. The manual has been formatted to allow for easy revisions and additions. The material contained therein must be regularly updated by the association due to the constant evolution of laws affecting newspapers. The manual is provided for general information purposes only, and specific legal questions should be directed to a lawyer. PNA attorneys regularly provide their members with pre-publication review and advice on the right to know, the Sunshine Act, independent contractors, defamation, access to court, the First Amendment, copyright and trademarks, the Pennsylvania Shield Act, and advertising matters.
