It aims to ensure equal access to justice for all Americans by providing funding for civil legal aid to those who otherwise could not afford it. The availability of a civil lawyer can make all the difference for our neighbours struggling to stay home, escape domestic violence, get benefits for veterans or people with disabilities, or many other legal challenges that are central to their safety and well-being. Many courts have “self-help centres” where the public can obtain accurate, up-to-date legal information free of charge. Some of them have navigators or other staff members who can help you find the right information. By having access to this information, people without a lawyer can more effectively explain their case to a judge and solve their own legal problems.
